The Keys to Stress-Free Mornings
My children and I always love the beginning of school. The air is filled with excitement and enthusiasm. New backpacks, pristine uniforms, and fresh school supplies all signal the potential of a new beginning. The possibility of new friends, fascinating adventures and insightful knowledge energizes all of us. As exciting as this time of year is, for many families it can also be a time of stress. Lost shoes, unrealistic teacher expectations, missing homework, and perpetual nagging to get dressed, is what goes on in many homes before the school day begins.
Here are several keys to help make the mornings as stress- free as possible.
Find Peace within Yourself: Your children are barometers for your emotional state. The calmer you can be the less stress your children will experience. Although this is not always easy, by learning specific techniques to honor your emotions, stay centered and achieve emotional well being, your mornings will be far more relaxed. For some it is as simple as taking several deep breaths, for others it is journaling. The important thing is that you find a way to center yourself before your day begins. The Family Comfort Package can help you discover tools to find inner peace.
Develop a routine for your child: Children need structure and one of the easiest ways to take the drama out of the morning is to develop a written morning and nighttime routine that your children can easily and independently follow. Begin practicing these routines a week before school starts to ensure less stressful mornings.
Prepare the night before: This is such a huge stress-reducer. Have your children lay out their clothing and shoes. Have them make sure their backpacks are packed and all homework is completed. Being prepared the night before will also help your children sleep better because they will not be worrying about their homework.
Pack little positive notes everyday in their lunchboxes: Sometimes school can be overwhelming and daunting for children especially at lunch time. Can you remember a time when you had to sit all alone in the school cafeteria or had a really hard day? Write your own notes or use our Lunchboxes of Love and secretly hide them in your child’s lunchbox. How loved your child will feel when they open their lunchbox and find that mom knows just how they were feeling.
Connect to the highest good: Start every morning, as a family, in prayer and meditation. Quiet down your home, play soothing music, and light candles. Together breathe deeply, envisioning the highest good unfolding, feel comforted that their needs will be met, and that they learn from every experience they encounter. A Moment of Peace: Stress Reduction for Children is a joyful way to help children tap into the law of attraction, stay calm and start the day in a positive way.
By laying the foundation with these simple strategies you and your children can easily reduce the stress of the school year.
May this new school year bring you and your children more laughter than tears, more blessings than challenges, more successes than struggles, more health than illness, more friendship than loneliness and may each of your children always be safe and supported.
