Act at a Time

Objective: To have children experience the profound effect of performing intentional acts of kindness.  To create a school atmosphere where kindness replaces bullying, where compliments replace teasing, and where connection replaces isolation.

Principles:  Children love a challenge, are naturally competitive, and get so much pleasure out of tattling on each other.  Mission Possible taps into these three key personality characteristics by challenging the students to write down and post on a bulletin board, when someone has done something kind for them. 

Once they have posted this kind act, they then have to do something kind for someone else.  Then once a month a student will be responsible for totaling their classroom’s acts of kindness and reporting this total to the person performing the morning announcements.  The class with the highest total that month will be recognized.  At the end of the year the class with the highest total of kind acts will receive a pizza party.  Every student at the school will receive an award celebrating that they were someone who was able to change the world one kind act at a time.
